it was the bottom of the 8th. and he was safe. as i said, i was in the front row just to the right of home plate… i had a clear view of the runner sliding toward me and the catcher making a swipe. if watch the video it dosent look like he even has the ball in his glove… judging by the way he is “pulling the ball out of his glove” to show the umpire he has the ball it dosent seem possible that the ball was in the glove when he made the tag, which was after the runner has touched the plate.

it happened in the 8th and could have cost us the game. theres no way to tell how either team would have played after that… those types of things change the atmosphere of a game.

the questionable call at 1st on Sunday is the only one that was truly close but who was the ump ant 1st on Sun… Dave Yeast! by that point his creditability was gone.

I know its all anyone has talked about but Smith WAS safe at home. You watched it on a computer, I was there (in the front row) and it was clear to everyone he was safe. It wasnt just that play… the ump had an inconsistent strike zone all night. He is (supposedly) one of the best umps in the NCAA (he has been the national coordinator of umpires and has umped CWS games), so all of this from him made his performance inexcusable. How much did t.u. pay Dave Yeast to give the game to the t-sips?
